AP Ventures
AP Ventures is a leading venture fund dedicated to the hydrogen segment. The fund invests globally in the entire hydrogen value chain, from production to transport, through to storage and use.
Investing for a strengthened global hydrogen economy
AP Ventures was founded in 2018 and is headquartered in London. The fund’s focus is on companies and technologies that address the climate challenges and the UN’s sustainability goals, especially with regard to renewable energy, resource scarcity and changing demographics. Norway is an area of focus for the fund as a strategic location for green and blue hydrogen.
Through the fund AP Ventures Fund II, the British venture capitals has already invested in a number of exciting companies and technologies with solutions for, among other things, carbon capture and storage and use of CO2, including in Nysnø’s portfolio company ZEG Power, which produces blue hydrogen with integrated carbon capture.
Energy carrier of the future
Hydrogen is considered to be a crucial energy carrier to achieve the global climate goals. Bloomberg New Energy Finance estimates that clean hydrogen could account for 24 percent of global energy demand by 2050, up from 2 percent in 2020. Hydrogen is particularly important for cutting greenhouse gas emissions in sectors where direct electrification is demanding, such as industrial processes and long-distance transportation.
All of AP Ventures’ portfolio companies utilise the high performance characteristics of Platinum Group Metals. These metals enable efficient chemical reactions in the production, storage, release, measurement and utilisation of hydrogen, and are considered an important component in building a hydrogen economy with lower greenhouse gas emissions.
Gateway to larger markets
Due to the abundance of hydropower, well-developed carbon capture technologies, and good opportunities for use and storage, Norway has the potential to spearhead the European transition to a sustainable hydrogen economy. A close collaboration with a recognized hydrogen-focused investment fund such as AP Ventures, provides valuable insight into well-developed knowledge and experience, and increases the opportunities for co-investments as well as geographical diversification.
With its clear presence in Norway and connection to the global ecosystem, AP Ventures can provide Norwegian companies with access to a larger global market, and thereby also strengthen Norway’s position as a leading hydrogen economy internationally.
