Nysnø invests in tech company Disruptive Technologies

Disruptive Technologies develops miniature sensors, the size of a post stamp. These sensors have a 15-year battery life and numerous application areas that can contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

Disruptive Technologies produces wireless sensors and have come up with a solution that is simple, robust, scalable and secure.  The sensors collect data continuously and deliver insight to the users´ chosen analytics platforms. There is a huge global potential for these sensor solutions for example within real estate, energy and health care, and the company has experienced tremendous interest from customers and partners.

«This technology is particularly interesting to Nysnø as it has applications within energy efficiency, resource efficiency and the improvement of critical infrastructure for future energy systems, which in turn reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Disruptive Technologies deliver access to a broad range of relevant and reliable data, providing customers with valuable input in their decision-making process. The areas of application are numerous», says Eivind Egeland Olsen, Chief Investment Officer of Nysnø Climate Investments.

The sensors have built-in processing, radio communication and a battery with a lifetime of up to 15 years. This solution contributes to improved efficiency, increased sustainability and quality of life. Disruptive has distributed more than 30 700 sensors and users daily receive over 3 million datapoints.

«Sustainability and a green profile are core values in our corporate culture. We work toward an improved world with smarter solutions, where we can assist organisations in making wise decisions based on reliable data, thereby drastically reducing their consumption, improving efficiency and increasing welfare. We are very proud to work with Nysnø», says Erik Fossum Færevaag, Founder and CEO of Disruptive Technologies.

Leading organisations within real estate, energy and health care currently build their smart solutions upon Disruptive Technologies´ sensor technology:

  • The world faces enormous challenges when it comes to energy efficiency of commercial spaces and there is huge potential in smart ways of reducing consumption. A leading global real estate company ensures a comfortable indoor climate for its tenants by using these sensors for continual surveillance of temperature, at the same time experiencing a considerable reduction in energy consumption.
  • The battle against food waste is important to the food industry. One of the largest supermarket chains in Europe expect to obtain considerable savings by means of sensors that protect energy sensitive foods. When these sensors are used efficiently in the battle against food waste, less produce goes to waste and cost reductions are achieved.
  • A large increase in the world’s energy consumption results in an increased number of critical faults to the power grid, such as fires and power outages. Power companies responsible for developing, maintaining and operating the power grid, use these sensors to detect and prevent critical faults to their transformer stations, in turn ensuring a more stable power grid.

Disruptive Technologies has experienced a huge increase in demand for their products and are now ready for international expansion. Nysnø is one of several investors in the expected capital raise of NOK 85 million.

Disruptive Technologies was established in 2013 and has 50 employees in offices in Bergen, Oslo, Trondheim, Volda, London, Paris and Munich. The company’s main office is in Kokstad in Bergen. The major shareholders are Frøysli, Ubon Partners, Firda, Ferd, TD Veen, Norselab and Nysnø.

Nysnø Climate Investments was established in December of 2017 by the Norwegian Ministry of Trade, Industry & Fisheries. The governmental climate investment fund makes commercial investments in technologies and companies that contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. The company’s mandate is set out in the Norwegian National Budget for 2018. Nysnø has offices in Stavanger and started its activities in June of 2018.
